Tamanrasset & the Hoggar
Hoggar & Assekrem: sunrise over the Atakor
Volcanic peaks, Tuareg camps and a night near Charles de Foucauld's hermitage to watch the sun rise over the Hoggar mountains.
A month-long camel expedition for experienced desert travellers: across the Atakor, through the salt plain of Amadror, around the Garet el Djenoun and along the Tefedest range.
This is the longest journey we offer: about four weeks of caravan life in the eastern and northern Hoggar. From Tamanrasset you cross the Atakor, descend to the immense plain of Amadror, walk towards the Garet el Djenoun, the 'mountain of spirits', and follow the Tefedest range before returning past the granite domes of Igmaten.
It is reserved for travellers in good physical condition who have already done a camel trek or a long desert trek. Everyone takes part in camp life. One spare day is planned in Tamanrasset at the end, as a safety margin for the return flight.
Welcome at Tamanrasset airport by the SEFAR team and transfer to a guesthouse.
Nine days crossing the volcanic Atakor and descending east towards the great plain of Amadror.
From Amadror north to Ens Aguelmanen, with the Garet el Djenoun rising ahead.
Six days following the Tefedest range to the wadi Adenek.
Last week of walking past the granite domes of Igmaten, then transfer to Tamanrasset.
Free day in Tamanrasset, kept as a safety margin.
Transfer to Tamanrasset airport for your flight.
