Béjaïa
Kabylie of the Babors: from the sea to the wild summits
Eight days from the coast of Béjaïa into the forested Babor mountains: an eco-lodge, the summit of Adrar Amellal, fir forests, waterfalls and the Roman city of Djemila.
An eight-day mountain trek in Upper Kabylie: cedar forests, Lake Goulimine, the summit of Lalla Khedidja (2,308 m) and nights in Kabyle villages.
The Djurdjura is the high limestone range of Kabylie, rising above olive groves and hilltop villages. This trek starts in the silversmiths' village of Beni Yenni and climbs through cedar and oak forests to Lake Goulimine, then up to Lalla Khedidja, the highest point of the range, before crossing the Azrou n'Thor plateau.
It is a demanding walk, with four to five hours a day, steep climbs and some scree. In return you discover a living Berber culture, sleep in guesthouses and mountain lodges and share a night with a Kabyle family. Best in spring and early autumn.
