Constantine
Great civilisations of Algeria: from Tipaza to Ghardaïa
Thirteen days across 2,000 years of history: Oran, Roman Tipaza and Cherchell, Algiers, Djemila, Constantine, Timgad, the Aurès, the oasis of Biskra and the M'zab valley.
Eight days between the city of bridges and the Mediterranean: Constantine, the Roman ruins of Tiddis and Hippo, the basilica of Saint Augustine and the forests of the Edough.
Algeria's east is green, hilly and rich in history. You begin in Constantine, clinging to its rock above the Rhumel gorge, with its suspension bridges, mosques and old town, and the red Roman site of Tiddis nearby. Then you follow the road to Annaba on the coast.
In Annaba you explore the old town and citadel, the ruins of Hippo Regius, where Saint Augustine was bishop, and the basilica that bears his name. A last day in the cool cork-oak forests of the Edough above the village of Séraïdi completes a trip that suits most travellers.
Welcome at the airport and transfer to your hotel in the city centre.
The Emir Abdelkader mosque, the Sidi M'Cid suspension bridge and the war memorial above the gorge.
The hot springs of Hammam Bouziane, the Roman hill town of Tiddis, then the old town of Constantine.
