Djanet & the Tadrart Rouge
Tadrart Rouge in depth: eight days among red dunes and canyons
A longer, slower journey through the Tadrart Rouge: engraved canyons, the arch of Tamesguida, the giant dunes of Moul N'Aga and the cirque of Tin Merzouga.
An eight-day 4x4 journey with short walks to the less-visited dunes and sandstone massifs north of Djanet: Erg Admer, Erg Tihodaïne and the Tassili of Ifedaniouene.
Most visitors to Djanet head south to the Tadrart. This circuit goes the other way, towards ergs and plateaus that see very few travellers: the golden dunes of Admer, the vast Erg Tihodaïne with its Neolithic tombs, the sandstone maze of Tin Batoulet and the painted shelters of the Tassili of Ifedaniouene.
Travel is by 4x4 with walks of one to three hours, so good general fitness is enough. Each evening the crew sets up camp in a new landscape, from dunes to basalt plains. A good choice if you want wide open spaces and quiet, without a long trek.
