Tamanrasset & the Hoggar
Hoggar & Assekrem: sunrise over the Atakor
Volcanic peaks, Tuareg camps and a night near Charles de Foucauld's hermitage to watch the sun rise over the Hoggar mountains.
Sixteen days on foot across the whole Atakor and Taessa, with the Assekrem hermitage, a night at altitude after climbing Mount Tahat and a crossing of the Taessa ridge.
Our most complete trek in the Hoggar mountains. You walk north from Essouf Mellen through gorges and passes, camp below Mount Tahat, approach the Assekrem as the rock changes from lava to granite, and spend a night near Charles de Foucauld's hermitage. Then comes the ascent of Mount Tahat and a high bivouac.
The second half crosses the granite Taessa massif by a ridge at over 2,100 m and the basalt plateau of Tassa n'Aguenna before returning to Tamanrasset. Expect four to six hours of mountain walking a day; good fitness is essential.
Welcome at Tamanrasset airport by the SEFAR team and transfer to a guesthouse.
4x4 drive to Aharar and Essouf Mellen, first bivouac with the caravan, then across the plain towards Asseloum.
Gorges of the wadi Ilaman, passes and mountain paths, camp below Mount Tahat and an optional small summit near Tahassa.
From lava to granite along the wadi Asarou, then the Assekrem plateau, the hermitage and a descent to camp at In Fergan.
Approach along the wadi Ebowel, then the ascent of Mount Tahat and a bivouac at altitude.
Volcanic walking to Tin Eguefes, then into the granite Taessa and over its ridge at Edekel n'Tahart.
The wadi Eméharagélé and the basalt plateau below the Adrar Hegrin.
Last walk to Aguendou Wan Tamalra and drive back to Tamanrasset; night at the guesthouse.
